It all began in a small two man cork cutting shop in 1860 in Pittsburgh, their national frontier barely reached beyond the western mountain ranges. Thomas Armstrong's first deliveries of hand carved corks were by wheelbarrow. In 1864 they started to stamp each cork sheet with their own brand name “Armstrong”. As buyer’s confidence in Armstrong brand grew, the Armstrong World Inc. became well known manufacturer, so did national sale. In the mid 1890s Armstrong appeared as the world's leading cork company and was incorporated in 1891.
Today after five generations Armstrong is a world wide ceiling, floor and cabinets manufacturing family having more than 14,600 employees those are designing, manufacturing and marketing a huge range of quality products and services across the world. Now over 140 years old, Armstrong flooring company was originally begun as a carpet mill in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
